Stability of quantum motion and correlation decay

چکیده
We derive a simple and general relation between the fidelity of quantum motion, characterizing the stability of quantum dynamics with respect to arbitrary static perturbation of the unitary evolution propagator, and the integrated time auto-correlation function of the generator of perturbation. Surprisingly, this relation predicts the slower decay of fidelity the faster decay of correlations is. In particular, for non-ergodic and non-mixing dynamics, where asymptotic decay of correlations is absent, a qualitatively different and faster decay of fidelity is predicted on a time scale ∝ 1/δ as opposed to mixing dynamics where the fidelity is found to decay exponentially on a time-scale ∝ 1/δ, where δ is a strength of perturbation. A detailed discussion of a semi-classical regime of small effective values of Planck constant h̄ is given where classical correlation functions can be used to predict quantum fidelity decay. Note that the correct and intuitively expected classical stability behavior is recovered in the classical limit h̄ → 0, as the two limits δ → 0 and h̄ → 0 do not commute. In addition we also discuss non-trivial dependence on the number of degrees of freedom. All the theoretical results are clearly demonstrated numerically on a celebrated example of a quantized kicked top. Submitted to : J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. PACS numbers: 03.65.Yz, 03.65.Sq, 05.45.Mt

Implication of Quantum Effects on Non-Linear Propagation of Electron Plasma Solitons
We have studied the electron exchange-correlation effect on thecharacteristics of the two-component unmagnetized dense quantum plasma withstreaming motion. For this purpose, we have used the quantum hydrodynamic model(including the effects of a quantum statistical Fermi electron temperature) for studyingthe propagation of an electrostatic electron plasma waves in such th...
متن کاملQuantization of electromagnetic fields in the presence of a spherical semiconductor quantum dot and spontaneous decay of an excited atom doped in this nanostructure
In this paper we consider electromagnetic field quantization in the presence of a dispersive and absorbing semiconductor quantum dot. By using macroscopic approach and Green's function method, quantization of electromagnetic field is investigated. Interaction of a two-level atom , which is doped in a semiconductor quantum dot, with the quantized field is considered and its spontaneous emission ...
متن کاملStability of quantum motion: beyond Fermi-golden-rule and Lyapunov decay.
We study, analytically and numerically, the stability of quantum motion for a classically chaotic system. We show the existence of different regimes of fidelity decay. In particular, when the underlying classical dynamics is weakly chaotic, deviations from Fermi-golden-rule and Lyapounov regimes are observed and discussed.
متن کاملStability of Quantum Dynamics
The stability of quantum systems to perturbations of the Hamiltonian is studied. This stability is quantified by the fidelity, an overlap of an ideal state obtained by the unperturbed evolution, and a perturbed state obtained by the perturbed evolution, both starting from the same initial state. Dependence of fidelity on the initial state as well as on the dynamical properties of the system is ...
متن کاملStability of quantum motion in regular systems: a uniform semiclassical approach.
We study the stability of quantum motion of classically regular systems in the presence of small perturbations. On the basis of a uniform semiclassical theory we derive the fidelity decay which displays a quite complex behavior, from Gaussian to power law decay t(-alpha), with 1 <or= alpha <or= 2. Semiclassical estimates are given for the time scales separating the different decaying regions, a...
